BCCI VP Rajeev Shukla Stays Silent on Pak-Ind Bilateral Ties Resumption

As questions continue to circulate regarding the logistical arrangements for the 2025 Champions Trophy, the criticism has yet to elicit a response from Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla, who attended the second semi-final between New Zealand and South Africa in Lahore.

The match, attended by a modest crowd, marked the final Champions Trophy game to be held in Pakistan, following India’s progression to the final. Consequently, the final will be hosted in Dubai, despite Pakistan being the official hosts.

Rajeev Shukla’s remarks on the issue drew attention after the conclusion of the semi-final. When asked if Pakistan should have hosted the final, Shukla responded, “You should’ve asked Australia to win,” referencing the hybrid model that allowed India to play all its matches in Dubai while the rest of the tournament took place in Pakistan.

Shukla’s comments came amid growing frustrations over the logistical issues that prevented Pakistan from hosting the final of the 2025 Champions Trophy, marking the first ICC event for the nation in almost three decades.

He also addressed the sensitive topic of India-Pakistan bilateral cricket relations, acknowledging the strong demand from fans for a series between the two countries. However, he made it clear that any potential series would require approval from the Indian government, stating, “For us to visit Pakistan, it will have to come from the government.”

The BCCI vice-president’s statements reignited debates about the strained cricketing ties between the two nations. As the Champions Trophy heads to Dubai, Pakistan not hosting the final leaves a sour aftertaste for fans, who are left uncertain about when they will next see international stars compete in Pakistan.
