The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has introduced a free solar panel scheme to provide electricity to low-income families across the province.
Under the initiative, 130,000 households registered under the Ehsaas and Benazir Income Support Programmes will receive solar systems.
In the first phase, 32,500 eligible families will be selected through a lottery, with priority given to areas lacking electricity. Orphans, widows, disabled individuals, and transgender persons are also included in the scheme.
Selected beneficiaries will receive a complete solar package, including panels, controllers, fans, bulbs, and batteries.
Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur stated that the project was launched to address the province’s energy crisis. He assured that the distribution process would be transparent, with merit-based selection.
He also mentioned that Dera Ismail Khan had the highest number of applicants. The chief minister further directed lawmakers to ensure fair distribution and said that competition in governance should be based on performance, as KP has always led in this regard.
