Govt Gives Deadline For Illegal Foreigners to Leave Pakistan

The federal government has directed Afghan Citizen Card (ACC) holders and all illegal foreigners in Pakistan to leave the country by March 31, 2025, as part of its ongoing repatriation program.

The ACC, issued by Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), grants temporary legal status to Afghan nationals. However, the federal government determines its validity.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Interior Ministry stated that the Illegal Foreigners Repatriation Programme (IFRP) has been in effect since November 1, 2023. The latest decision extends the repatriation process to include ACC holders.

“All illegal foreigners and ACC holders are advised to leave voluntarily before March 31, 2025. After this deadline, deportation will begin on April 1, 2025,” the statement read. The government emphasized that sufficient time has already been provided for a “dignified return.”

The ministry assured that no individual would be mistreated during the repatriation process, adding that arrangements for food and healthcare have been made for those returning. It also reiterated that anyone remaining in Pakistan must follow legal procedures and comply with the country’s laws.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) have previously raised concerns over Pakistan’s repatriation plan.

Last month, they sought clarification from the government regarding the timeline and execution of relocating registered Afghan refugees from Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
