The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Higher Education Department (HED) is working on a plan to provide students with internship opportunities in various industries across the province.
A meeting was held on Thursday, chaired by Higher Education Minister Meena Khan Afridi, where officials discussed ways to expand internship placements for BS students in government colleges and fresh graduates.
Senior officials, including the Special Secretary for Higher Education, Additional Secretaries, and representatives from the Youth Affairs Department, attended the meeting.
Officials revealed that discussions with industrialists, government institutions, and NGOs in Peshawar, Mardan, and Hazara have already taken place, receiving a positive response. Similar efforts are ongoing in other districts to extend internship opportunities.
Minister Afridi stressed the need to make internships mandatory as per the Higher Education Commission’s guidelines. He also instructed the HED to sign an agreement with the Youth Affairs Department to ensure opportunities for students from settled areas and merged districts.
Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of internships in Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies and directed the department to collaborate with the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) to develop such programs.
The meeting also covered various aspects of internship expansion, aiming to equip students with practical skills for better career prospects.
