Bizarre Study Reveals the Insect Whose Milk is More Nutritious Than Cow Milk

A recent study has revealed that the yellowish fluid produced by the Pacific beetle cockroach (Diploptera punctata) contains three times more calories than cow’s milk, which was previously considered one of the most calorie-dense mammalian milks.

Scientists discovered that cockroach milk is rich in proteins, amino acids, and healthy sugars, all of which are crucial for cell growth and repair.

“This discovery is truly remarkable,” said Dr. Emily Watts, a researcher at the University of Oxford. “The nutritional composition of cockroach milk offers an exciting alternative for those seeking natural, nutrient-dense food sources.”

Despite its potential benefits, cockroach milk is not yet available for human consumption. One of the biggest challenges is production limitations—female cockroaches produce only a small amount of this nutrient-rich fluid to nourish their offspring, making large-scale extraction impractical.

However, as interest in alternative and sustainable food sources continues to grow, researchers are exploring their feasibility as a future food innovation. Experts caution, however, that like other superfoods, cockroach milk should be viewed as a supplement rather than a replacement for a well-balanced diet.

As scientific research progresses, cockroach milk could eventually find its place in the health and wellness industry, potentially revolutionizing nutritional alternatives in the years to come.
