Punjab to Use Advanced Technology to Prevent Cheating During Exams

For the first time, the Punjab School Education Department (SED) has implemented face detection technology to curb cheating in the 2025 annual matriculation exams.

Punjab Minister for School Education Rana Sikandar Hayat, along with Chairman Task Force for Education Muzammil Mehmood, conducted surprise inspections at sensitive examination centers on Raiwind Road on Monday.

During the visit, officials verified students’ identities using a 3D barcode system, assessed exam arrangements, and collected student feedback.

Mr. Hayat praised the supervisory staff for maintaining a smooth examination process. “Raiwind Road examination centers were previously known for widespread cheating. However, our new measures have reduced cheating by 90%, marking an unprecedented level of transparency,” he stated. Reported cases of cheating have dropped from 15-20 per day last year to just 2-3 cases this year.

The initiative aligns with the Punjab Chief Minister’s goal of achieving 100% transparency in the examination system by next year. The reforms also include special monitoring teams in key districts such as Daska, Wazirabad, Gujranwala, and Lahore.

Modernizing the Examination System

• The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore introduced QR-coded online roll number slips for the first time to modernize exam processes.
• The QR code system allows for quick access to personal data and verification, minimizing fraud.
• An automated staff deployment system ensures fair duty assignments, eliminating favoritism and malpractice.

According to Controller of Examinations Zahid Mian, these technological upgrades are designed to provide a secure and efficient examination experience.

The 2025 matriculation exams began on March 4 and will conclude on March 24.
