Punjab Chief Secretary has announced the enforcement of the Essential Services Act across the province after teachers refused to perform examination duties, reported 24NewsHD TV on Saturday.
The decision was made after authorities noticed that a large number of teachers had declined to participate in examination duties.
Under this act, all school and college teachers are now obligated to perform examination duties, and strict action will be taken against those who refuse.
The Service and General Administration Department (S&GAD) Punjab has already issued a notification regarding the implementation of the act.
Matric Exams Underway from March 4, 2025
Matriculation examinations began across Punjab on March 4, 2025, making the enforcement of this act crucial to ensure smooth conduct.
Strict Action Against Non-Compliant Staff
Earlier, the Punjab Education Minister instructed authorities to implement a zero-tolerance policy against staff members failing to report for duty. Officials have been directed to immediately compile lists of those refusing to comply.
The minister stressed that, according to service rules, no government teacher is allowed to refuse examination duty and warned that strict disciplinary action would be taken against violators.
