5 Holidays Expected on Eid-ul-Fitr in UAE

UAE residents are set to enjoy a holiday of up to five days to celebrate Eid Al Fitr, marking the first extended break of 2025. Depending on the moon’s sighting, the holiday period will either span four or five days, including the weekend.

Based on astronomical calculations, the holiday is anticipated to last five days. Eid Al Fitr, which concludes the fasting month of Ramadan and falls on the first day of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar, depends on the sighting of the crescent Moon, which determines the duration of Ramadan.

The UAE’s moon-sighting committee will meet on Ramadan 29 (Saturday, March 29) to observe the skies. If the Moon is sighted, Ramadan ends after 29 days, and the Eid holiday will be observed from Sunday, March 30, to Tuesday, April 1, with an additional Saturday weekend, making it a four-day break.

In the event the Moon is not sighted on March 29, Ramadan will last 30 days. This year, the 30th of Ramadan will also be a holiday, extending the Eid break from Sunday, March 30 (Ramadan 30), to Wednesday, April 2, with the preceding Saturday, totaling a five-day break.

According to predictions by the Dubai Astronomy Group, Ramadan is likely to last 30 days, resulting in a five-day Eid Al Fitr holiday for residents.

The final dates for the holiday will be confirmed on March 29 by the moon-sighting committee. The Dubai Astronomy Group has encouraged residents to engage in the traditional practice of Moon sighting by observing the western horizon after sunset, with telescopes or binoculars if possible, and reporting their observations to the authorities.

The crescent Moon for Eid Al Fitr is expected to be visible in the UAE on the evening of March 30, with Eid festivities likely beginning on March 31.
