Health Alert Issued Over Human Metapneumovirus Threat

Authorities in Kotli have issued a health alert regarding the potential spread of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), a respiratory virus that poses serious risks to children and the elderly. The Kotli Health Department has released an advisory urging the public to take precautionary measures.

HMPV primarily affects the respiratory system and can be especially dangerous for vulnerable groups, including young children and older adults. Symptoms, such as fever, cough, and congestion, resemble those of the flu and COVID-19, increasing public concerns.

Residents have been advised to avoid crowded places, wear masks, and practice social distancing to minimize the risk of infection. Health officials stress the importance of following these guidelines, as no approved vaccine for Metapneumovirus (HMPV) currently exists.

The alert follows global concerns earlier this year when the virus spread in China, raising fears of another outbreak. HMPV is most active in late winter and spring, often circulating alongside other respiratory viruses.

First identified in 2001 in the Netherlands, HMPV has been present in humans for decades. It belongs to the Pneumoviridae family and is closely related to Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). Authorities urge the public to remain cautious and prioritize health safety.
