In a major move towards environmental sustainability and compliance with global agreements, the Ministry of National Food Security and Research announced on Friday a complete ban on 12 highly toxic pesticides, which remain widely used despite their harmful effects on health and the environment.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by National Food Security Secretary Waseem Ajmal Chaudhary, where experts and stakeholders discussed the increasing dependence on Methyl Bromide (MB) and its consequences.

Previously used for pest control in key crops like wheat, cotton, rice, and vegetables, these pesticides have been linked to severe environmental damage, water contamination, and serious health risks for farmers and consumers.
Additionally, the ministry has decided to regulate the excessive use of Methyl Bromide in imported shipments, addressing growing concerns raised by both local and international regulatory bodies.
