157 Housing Societies Declared Illegal in Rawalpindi

The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has identified 157 housing schemes as illegal and has formally requested the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Revenue to impose a ban on the sale and purchase of plots within these developments.

In a letter issued by RDA’s Director of Metropolitan Planning and Traffic Engineering, Tahir Mayo, it was stated that these schemes had initially sought approval from the RDA and Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) but later withdrew their applications and continued operations unlawfully. Consequently, they have now been officially declared illegal, necessitating restrictions on property transactions.

The RDA has also taken legal action against these unauthorized schemes under the Punjab Development of Cities Act 1976 and the Punjab Development Authorities Private Housing Scheme Rules 2021, filing complaints with the relevant police stations.

These illegal housing projects are spread across various locations, including Rawalpindi, Kallar Syedan, Gujar Khan, Kahuta, Tahlian Rawat, Chakri, Mandra, Taxila, Wah Cantt, Chontra, Nasirabad, Kalyam, Fateh Jang, and Dhamaial. Citizens are urged to refrain from investing in these schemes to avoid potential financial losses.

Additionally, these housing projects have been found to employ misleading marketing strategies to attract buyers.
