Punjab Govt Launches Rs. 4.5 Billion Plan to Upgrade Murree

The Punjab government has launched a Rs. 4.5 billion development project in Murree to upgrade the hill station’s infrastructure and boost tourism. The initiative, overseen by the chief minister, is expected to be completed within 18 months.

According to the Director-General of the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) Kamran Lashari, the project aims to restore historic sites and improve facilities for visitors. Key areas, including Mall Road and the General Post Office (GPO), will be renovated to maintain their traditional charm while introducing modern amenities.

Lashari highlighted that the government is also working on launching a glass train in Murree to offer tourists a unique travel experience. The project prioritizes sustainable development to protect Murree’s natural environment while enhancing its appeal as a top tourist destination.

Additionally, the WCLA is focusing on restoring historical sites across Punjab, including Sufi shrines, gurdwaras, and churches. Efforts are also being made to facilitate student visits to heritage sites to promote cultural awareness.

With growing interest from international tourists, including Sikh visitors, officials believe these initiatives will contribute to economic growth and strengthen Pakistan’s position as a major travel destination.
