UAE Announces Eid-ul-Fitr Holidays

The UAE has announced the Eid Al Fitr holiday schedule for government sector employees across the country.

According to the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, the holiday will begin on Shawwal 1 and end on Shawwal 3, 1446 AH, based on the Islamic calendar. Work will resume on Shawwal 4.

The Moon sighting in the UAE is scheduled for March 29, as Islamic months last either 29 or 30 days. Eid Al Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan, falls on Shawwal 1.

If the crescent moon is sighted on March 29, the Eid holidays will begin on Sunday, March 30, aligning with the Gregorian calendar. This would result in a four-day break from March 29 to April 1, as Saturday is already a weekend for most employees.

However, if the Moon is not visible on March 29 and Ramadan extends to 30 days, Eid will begin on March 31, granting residents a five-day weekend from March 29 to April 2.

Some government employees, particularly in Sharjah, where Friday is a weekend for the public sector, will receive up to six days off.

If Eid falls on Sunday, March 30, Sharjah’s government employees will have a five-day holiday from Friday, March 28, to Tuesday, April 1. If Eid is on Monday, March 31, they will enjoy a six-day break from Friday, March 28, to Wednesday, April 2.
