The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has intensified its crackdown on individuals involved in illegal human smuggling, commonly known as “donkey” routes, across Pakistan.
According to documents presented to the National Assembly, the FIA has made significant arrests and recoveries in its ongoing operation.
According to documents from 2023 to 2025, the FIA arrested 204 individuals involved in human smuggling. The agency recovered over Rs. 48 million and froze assets worth over Rs. 602 million. Additionally, bank accounts holding over Rs. 115 million were frozen.
In connection with recent boat tragedies, the FIA made 531 additional arrests. These arrests resulted in the recovery of Rs. 24.5 million, the freezing of properties worth over Rs. 818 million, and the freezing of bank accounts containing over Rs. 190 million.
The 2023 Greece boat tragedy, where a vessel carrying over 300 Pakistani migrants capsized, resulted in the death of 262 people. The 2024 Greece boat accident claimed five lives. The Morocco boat tragedy resulted in the death of 10 Pakistani citizens. The Libya boat tragedy resulted in the death of 16 Pakistani citizens.
The FIA has conducted a nationwide crackdown on human smugglers. The operation aims to dismantle networks facilitating illegal migration.
