Google’s Gemini AI continues to receive upgrades by introducing two new features: Canvas and Audio Overview. These tools aim to make it easier for professionals to get work done faster.
Audio Overview
The new Audio Overview feature transforms your uploaded documents into AI-narrated podcast-style summaries. Previously seen in Google’s NotebookLM, this feature is now part of Gemini and available to all users, paying or free.
Once you upload a document, be it class notes, research papers, reports, or long email threads, Gemini can now make a podcast-style dialogue between two AI hosts that explains the content in a conversational format. It takes a few minutes per file and currently supports only English, though Google says more languages are coming soon.
This means that the feature will not only help podcasters but can also help students understand a topic better through a conversational method. This feature works both on the web and within the Gemini mobile app, and the generated audio can be shared or downloaded for later listening.
Canvas
Canvas offers a collaborative, interactive space within Gemini designed to simplify brainstorming, drafting, and refining content. Whether you’re writing articles, editing tone and formatting, or building prototypes for web apps and games, Canvas makes it easier to iterate directly with Gemini’s help.
Here is what it looks like in action.
Canvas supports exporting to Google Docs with a single click, allowing seamless collaboration with others once your AI-assisted draft is ready. It also includes tools for developers, enabling them to rapidly prototype scripts and code while receiving live feedback and assistance from Gemini.
Canvas is now rolling out globally to all Gemini and Gemini Advanced users and supports all languages.
