New Zealand ODI Squad Vs Pakistan Announced

New Zealand has unveiled its squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Pakistan, featuring some fresh faces.

21-year-old Muhammad Abbas, the son of former Pakistani batter Azhar Abbas Haraj, has earned his maiden call-up to the ODI squad. He recently made his maiden List A century and can also contribute as a left-arm seam bowler.

Michael Bracewell, who is leading the Kiwis in the ongoing T20I series, will hand over the captaincy to Tom Latham for the ODI series. Fast bowler Kyle Jamieson will miss the ODIs as selectors manage his workload following his participation in the Champions Trophy and recent T20Is against Pakistan. Additionally, pace spearhead Matt Henry remains sidelined as he continues rehabilitation for shoulder and knee issues.

In the absence of senior players, Will O’Rourke will lead the seam attack, supported by Ben Sears, Jacob Duffy, and Nathan Smith. Auckland leg-spinner Adithya Ashok has been recalled after last playing for New Zealand in December 2023, and he is seen as a potential successor to Ish Sodhi in white-ball cricket.

New Zealand selection manager Sam Wells views the series against Pakistan as an opportunity to test fringe players. “With the next ICC ODI pinnacle event still two and a half years away, this series is a perfect opportunity to introduce these players to international cricket,” he stated.
