The Pakistan Super League (PSL X) exhibition match between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators is facing uncertainty due to concerns over the condition of the newly constructed Arbab Niaz Stadium.
According to sources, a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) inspection team recently visited the venue and raised serious concerns about its readiness. The team deemed the pitch and outfield unsatisfactory, citing substandard conditions that could impact player safety and match quality. Additionally, the dressing rooms were found to lack basic necessities, while the media and commentary boxes were reported to be severely under-equipped.
The exhibition match, scheduled for April 8, was intended to engage local fans and build excitement ahead of the 10th edition of the PSL. The PCB had hoped to use the match as a platform to generate momentum for the tournament while reaffirming its commitment to expanding cricket across Pakistan.
Javed Afridi, the owner of Peshawar Zalmi, has been a vocal advocate for hosting PSL matches in Peshawar. He previously approached PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, urging him to consider Arbab Niaz Stadium as a venue for PSL 10.
However, the stadium’s current state has cast doubt on whether the match will proceed as planned. The PCB is now faced with the challenge of either addressing the venue’s shortcomings in time or reconsidering the match’s location.
The 10th edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League is set to kick off on April 11, with defending champions Islamabad United taking on Lahore Qalandars at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The six-team tournament will feature 34 matches across Lahore, Karachi, Multan, and Rawalpindi, concluding on May 18.
