The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has announced a comprehensive reform of its postgraduate clinical programs, introducing a competency-based curriculum to modernize medical education, 24 NewsHD TV reported on Tuesday.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting of UHS’s Specialty Advisory Committees, chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Ahsan Waheed Rathore.
Under the revised framework, all MD, MS, MDS, and postgraduate diploma programs will be restructured to emphasize skill-based training, ensuring students develop essential modern medical competencies. Clinical skills will be integrated from the beginning of the curriculum to enhance postgraduate professional training.
Prof. Rathore instructed the immediate modernization of 60 postgraduate programs, including 48 master’s degrees and 12 diploma programs. He stressed the importance of aligning training with international medical standards to equip students with advanced clinical expertise.
Additionally, specialized clinical skills workshops will be introduced to enhance hands-on training for residents.
To strengthen supervision and accountability, postgraduate residency programs will now be monitored through the UHS online portal. Supervisors will be required to submit quarterly progress reports via institutional heads, ensuring continuous assessment of residents’ performance.
This reform aims to elevate the quality of postgraduate medical education in Pakistan, preparing highly skilled healthcare professionals to meet the evolving challenges of modern medicine.
