Islamabad Hospitals to Be Shifted to Solar Energy

The federal government has decided to shift Islamabad’s hospitals to solar energy in phases.

According to sources, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and Polyclinic Hospital will be the first to transition, followed by the National Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine (NIRM) and Federal Government Hospital in the second phase.

The Ministry of Health has asked PIMS and Polyclinic to submit their solarization plans. Their transition to solar energy will be included in the next Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP). Emergency units, outpatient departments, and hospital wards will be powered by solar energy under this project.

Hospital administrations are currently working on the transition plan, which is expected to reduce electricity costs significantly. In the past, power supply to PIMS and Polyclinic had been disconnected multiple times due to unpaid bills, making the shift to solar energy a cost-effective solution.
