Infinix is preparing to launch the Note 50s 5G+ in India on April 18, and while the device falls in the mid-range category, it’s gaining attention for a feature not typically seen in smartphones—a scent-emitting rear panel.
Scent-Enabled Back Panel
According to Infinix, the Note 50s 5G+ will feature a unique scent-release mechanism known as Scent-Tech. This technology uses microencapsulation, a method that involves trapping fragrance molecules inside microscopic capsules. These capsules are embedded into the surface material of the phone’s back panel, which is made from synthetic leather.
Over time, these capsules gradually release a light fragrance into the surrounding environment. Infinix describes the scent as subtle and continuous, not meant to be strong or overwhelming. The company claims the fragrance will last for around six months, although the actual duration and strength will depend on ambient conditions like temperature and humidity, as well as how often the device is used.
Limited to One Color Option
While the phone will launch in three different color variants, the scent-enabled back panel will be available only with the Marine Drift Blue version. The other two color options will not feature this scent-release technology.
Pricing Expectations
The Infinix Note 50s 5G+ is expected to launch at a price point below INR 20,000, which puts it in the same range as other entry-level to mid-tier smartphones in India. While the exact specifications of the device are still unknown, the inclusion of this scent-emitting feature suggests that Infinix is attempting to offer something beyond the typical hardware upgrades.
Many Unanswered Questions
So far, Infinix has not disclosed detailed specifications about the Note 50s 5G+, such as the processor, display resolution, battery capacity, or software version. It’s also unclear whether the scent can be refilled, replaced, or disabled by users.
The concept of adding a fragrance to a phone may raise practical questions, including how the smell interacts with day-to-day use or how long-lasting the experience truly is in varied climates. The feature’s appeal or skepticism will likely depend on how well it performs in real-world usage after launch.
