Apple iPhone Price Could Triple in Pakistan Because of Trump’s Tariffs

The made-in-US iPhone could cost as much as $3,500 (over PKR 1 million) due to President Donald Trump’s latest trade tariffs, a Wall Street tech evangelist warned on Friday.

In a sharply worded note to clients on Friday, Dan Ives of Wedbush Securities cautioned that Trump’s push to revive 1980s-style American manufacturing through steep tariffs risks triggering what he called an economic Armageddon, especially for the tech sector.

Trump’s tariff plan includes levies of 50 percent on Chinese imports and 32 percent on goods from Taiwan, which are central to global electronics production. These proposed rates would force a massive price surge across the consumer electronics market. iPhones made in the US would cost $3,500 (vs. $1,000) while the overall tech product prices could rise by 40-50 percent, he wrote.

Ives warned that the new trade barriers could set the US tech industry back by a decade. He termed the tariff strategy a bad science experiment that would severely slow down the AI revolution and the broader technology trade.

The announcement has already sparked fears on Wall Street that inflation could double this year, reversing gains made since the pandemic. Another analyst raised concerns on Friday about the mismatch between Trump’s long-term reshoring ambitions and the short-term political cycle. He warned that Americans could face both a recession and higher prices well before any manufacturing revival materializes.

Meanwhile, China has reportedly retaliated with 34 percent tariffs on US imports.

The Wall Street analyst concluded his note by urging policymakers to revisit the tariff proposals before they take effect. “US consumers pay the price for this. Not a debate,” he added.
