As the Pakistan Super League (PSL) gears up for its landmark 10th season, momentum is building off the field just as much as on it, with new franchises expected to join the competition in the coming years.
According to CEO Salman Naseer, interest in owning new franchises has extended beyond Pakistan’s borders, with parties from the United States now in the mix for potential future expansion.
While the groundwork for adding new teams is still in its early stages, Naseer confirmed that discussions have already begun, with a post-season push expected to accelerate the process. “We’re in the data collection phase right now,” he explained. “Valuation is pending, and only after that can we dive into financial models and ownership pricing. It’s too soon to throw numbers around.”
Salman Naseer remained tight-lipped about the current franchise finances—especially regarding the Multan Sultans—but was optimistic about the broader league’s health. “Ask Multan directly about their numbers, but the rest of the teams are doing well. Each rights deal we finalize is stronger than the last, and revenues have consistently gone up. Everyone’s share has grown with time.”
What’s changed, though, is where the interest is coming from. During a recent trip to the U.S. alongside PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, the league received enthusiastic signals from American stakeholders keen to join the PSL ecosystem. “It was great to see the brand’s international reach. We’re confident the PSL can grow beyond just Pakistan,” Naseer added.
The PSL has been looking to add new franchises for a while now, given the rising profile of the league. The original plan was always to have more teams join the league after ten years, which will be fulfilled after this year’s competition.
With the 10th edition just days away, preparations have reached a fever pitch. Thirty-four thrilling games await the fans, and the league is pulling out all the stops to celebrate its decade milestone. With future additions on the cards, the PSL may just be getting started in its bid to become one of the most respected leagues in the world.
