Scammers are impersonating PTA officials and attempting to steal your sensitive personal and financial information via fraudulent calls.
The scam typically begins with an automated call from a female voice, which starts with the greeting: “Assalam-o-Alaikum, this is a call from PTA.” The scam tries to scare its victims, claiming that there has been a complaint against your phone number, which has been proven. The caller then threatens that all SIM cards registered under your name will be blocked within the next two hours unless you provide further details. It then tells you to press 9 on your phone keypad, just like an automated bank call.
Once you press 9, the scammers then proceed to demand personal information, such as your identity card number and bank account details, under the pretense of resolving the issue. They warn you that failure to comply will result in the immediate suspension of your phone services.
