Qualcomm is preparing to launch its next-generation flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, with a release expected around October 2025. A recent leak from China has provided new insights into the hardware specifications and performance improvements this processor will likely offer.
CPU: Upgraded Oryon Cores
Qualcomm is expected to equip the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 with its second-generation Oryon CPU cores, which will deliver roughly a 25% performance increase over the first Snapdragon 8 Elite.
These cores will likely maintain an octa-core configuration and will focus on improved multi-threading and power efficiency. The enhancement positions the chip to handle heavier processing tasks and multitasking more efficiently in high-end smartphones and tablets.
GPU: Increased Cache and Better Performance
According to the leak, the GPU in the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will receive an expanded independent cache — increasing from 12MB in the previous version to 16 MB. This change is projected to result in up to a 30% improvement in graphics performance. The larger cache will help the GPU manage data more effectively during intensive workloads like gaming, video editing, or using graphically demanding apps.
Memory Support: LPDDR5X and LPDDR6
The chip is expected to support both LPDDR5X and LPDDR6 RAM. Although LPDDR6 is not yet widely used, early support shows that the Elite 2 will be compatible with upcoming hardware configurations, allowing manufacturers to adopt newer memory technologies without delay.
Availability
Although Qualcomm has not officially confirmed any specifications, it is expected to announce the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 during its annual Snapdragon Summit in October.
