The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will begin a decisive round of meetings tomorrow with nine Long Distance International (LDI) telecom companies that owe a total of Rs. 78 billion in unpaid dues.
Sources told ProPakistani that this includes Rs. 24 billion in principal and Rs. 54 billion in late payment charges.
The purpose of these meetings is to determine whether the licenses of the defaulting LDI operators will be renewed or canceled. PTA has summoned the leadership of each company separately to present their position.
The schedule begins with LDI firm Red Tone on April 9, followed by Telecard on April 10. Wisecom has been called for April 14, WorldCall for April 15, Dancom and Multinet for April 16, Circlenet for April 17, and 4B Gentle on April 18.
The meetings will be held at PTA Headquarters and chaired by PTA Chairman Major General (retd) Hafeez-ur-Rehman, alongside PTA members, senior officers, and the Director General Licensing. A representative from the Ministry of Information Technology will also attend.
PTA has made it clear that if a company fails to attend on its scheduled date, a decision will be made based on available records. Final decisions regarding each license will follow the conclusion of these individual meetings.
