KP Announces Free Transport Facility for Female Students

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced the provision of free transport services for female students, enabling them to continue their education despite long distances. The initiative, which focuses on remote districts of the province, aims to reduce school dropout rates among girls due to transportation issues.

Which Areas Are Covered?

According to the KP education department, the government’s initiative will provide free transportation to female students in districts such as Kohistan, Torghar, Hangu, and Lakki Marwat, which are known for their remoteness. This scheme will also extend to other districts like Dera Ismail Khan, Charsadda, Kohat, and Bannu, ensuring that a broader range of female students can benefit.

The education department has directed all district education officers to implement this program, helping ensure that transportation barriers no longer hinder girls from accessing education. With this new scheme, the KP government aims to make education more accessible and inclusive for young girls.

Punjab Government’s Similar Initiative

In a similar move, the Punjab government has approved a special student travel card to ease students’ access to mass transit systems. The initiative, discussed in a recent cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, also includes free travel for disabled individuals and senior citizens. The government has further planned to draft proposals for launching a tram service to improve public transportation for all citizens, particularly students.
