India’s red-hot form on the global stage continues to be reflected in the individual honors column as well, with Shreyas Iyer claiming the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for March 2025, following a string of match-winning performances in the ICC Champions Trophy.
The elegant right-hander edged past New Zealand duo Jacob Duffy and Rachin Ravindra to take home the accolade, becoming the second Indian in as many months to earn the honor after Shubman Gill won it in February.
Shreyas Iyer’s case was straightforward yet compelling. He finished as India’s top run-scorer in the Champions Trophy, amassing 243 runs across three innings, including a standout 79 against New Zealand in the group stage. His aggregate came at an average of 57.33, underpinned by his ability to read game situations, rotate the strike, and build partnerships under pressure.
The 30-year-old’s biggest impact came through stability and maturity. Iyer was often tasked with anchoring the Indian innings through testing middle phases and passed with flying colors. In the final, in a rerun of the group stage clash with New Zealand, he delivered once again with a calculated 48 off 62 as India claimed the Champions Trophy title—ending a long wait for silverware and reaffirming their dominance in ICC white-ball events.
This award not only highlights Iyer’s resurgence following a period of inconsistent form and injury setbacks, but it also speaks volumes about India’s depth in white-ball cricket. With Shubman Gill excelling at the top and Iyer anchoring the middle overs, India appears to have found a perfect rhythm across the batting order.
With the T20 World Cup around the corner, India’s middle-order solidity could now anchored by a player who has found his groove at just the right time. March belonged to Iyer, and if current form holds, 2025 could belong to India.
