The Sindh government has announced a public holiday in Umerkot district on Wednesday, April 17, to facilitate the by-election in National Assembly constituency NA-213.
A notification issued by the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department confirmed the holiday, aiming to support the electoral process and encourage voter turnout.
The NA-213 seat became vacant after the passing of senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Nawab Muhammad Yousuf Talpur, who had won the seat in the February 2024 general elections. His death prompted the need for a by-election.
The Election Commission of Pakistan has scheduled polling for April 17. Preparations are underway, with the district administration coordinating closely with election officials to ensure smooth conduct.
Umerkot has long been a PPP stronghold, and the constituency remains politically important for the party in the region.
