In response to the alarming rise in traffic accidents involving motorcyclists driving the wrong way, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has taken a significant step to curb such violations.
The KMC has granted its city wardens the authority to impose heavy fines on individuals caught driving against traffic on city roads.
A statement from the KMC issued on Wednesday revealed that those found driving in the wrong direction on Karachi’s main roads will face a fine of Rs 15,000. The move aims to reduce traffic violations and enhance public safety by strictly enforcing road rules.
The KMC confirmed that this measure would be presented as a resolution for approval in the upcoming City Council session. The initiative is being introduced under the guidance of Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab and the Karachi Task Force, which he chairs.
Mayor Wahab emphasized the importance of taking strict action against one-way traffic violations to prevent accidents and improve the flow of traffic throughout Karachi. He urged motorists to adhere to traffic laws and cooperate with enforcement officers to ensure safer roads in the city.
