Pakistan Dominates Australian Junior Open 2025 With Five Medals

In a landmark achievement for Pakistan squash, the country’s next generation of stars made a stunning statement at the Australian Junior Open 2025, returning home with four gold medals and one silver, underlining the nation’s rich legacy in the sport and its promising future.

This breakthrough performance was headlined by the Ali sisters’ dominance, with Mahnoor Ali (U13) and Mehwish Ali (U17) both climbing to the top of the podium. Adding to the golden haul was Azan Ali Khan, who clinched the U17 boys’ title in commanding fashion, along with Ahmad Ali Naz in the U11 boys’ category.

The only blemish—if it can even be called that—came in the form of a silver medal for Sehrish Ali, who impressed throughout the U15 girls’ competition before falling narrowly short in the final.

For Mahnoor Ali and Mehwish Ali, this was more than just another win—it was about defending their Australian Junior Open crowns. Both players successfully retained the titles they won last year, showing composure, skill, and a growing maturity that sets them apart on the junior circuit.

Mehwish, the number 1 seed, eased to an 11-5, 11-5, 11-7 win over Eden-Alma Poulava, while Mahnoor, the top seed in the U13 bracket, was equally dominant in her 11-2, 11-5, 11-6 win over Riyo Kawabata.

Their third sister, Sehrish, meanwhile, narrowly missed out on joining her sisters on the top podium after a closely fought 15-13, 5-11, 12-10, 6-11, 11-4 loss to the top seed, Emily Senior.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Ali Naz, in the boys’ U11 category, displayed exceptional court craft and tactical intelligence beyond his years to earn an 11-5, 2-11, 6-11, 6-11 win over Freddie Goldsmith.

Azan Ali Khan, in the boys’ U17 division, sealed his gold with a commanding 11-8, 11-2, 11-4 performance in the final—his mix of power, precision, and relentless pressure proving too much for Aiden Finlay-Mulligen.

Pakistan’s junior squash success at the Australian Junior Open 2025 comes at a time when the nation is actively looking to rebuild its standing in the global game. The once-dominant powerhouse has struggled in senior rankings over the last two decades, but this latest performance by the youth contingent offers a glimmer of hope—and perhaps a foundation on which to build a new era.
