Pakistan Seals Qualification for the Women’s ODI World Cup

In a tournament that defined their grit and growing maturity, Pakistan Women have become the first team from the ICC Qualifier to reach the main stage of the Women’s ODI World Cup, set to take place in India later this year. Fatima Sana’s team reached the promised land, not even needing their full quota of five games.

The tournament’s host, now sitting at the top of the Women’s World Cup Qualifier table, eased past Thailand with another complete performance for their fourth straight win, adding another significant chapter to their expanding history.

The 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup will be Pakistan’s sixth appearance at the showpiece event after being part of the tournament in 1997, 2009, 2013, 2017, and 2022, where they will look to better their best-ever finish of 5th place, which they achieved in 2009 in Australia. Pakistan has finished bottom of the table in three previous editions, but if the Qualifier is any indication, this team looks more than ready to make some noise on the grandest stage.

Pakistan’s qualification also means that the ICC will now need to decide on neutral venues that will host Pakistan’s fixtures after the neutral venue agreement between PCB and BCCI came into place before the 2025 Men’s Champions Trophy.

For now, Pakistan’s qualification will be a source of pride for the nation and an opportunity to build momentum ahead of a global tournament. Preparations will now pivot to finalizing squad depth, scheduling warm-up fixtures, and acclimatizing to foreign conditions, where expectations—and the pressure—will be at an all-time high.

They still have a lot of sway in the Qualifier despite their progress. A win over Bangladesh in their last encounter could be a huge favor for Scotland or West Indies, who are still battling for that second qualification spot.

Cricketing giants Australia, New Zealand, India, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and England await Fatima Sana’s team, but for now, her squad has earned the right to celebrate.

Pakistan are going to the World Cup. And they mean business.
