Punjab to Launch Special Cards for Labourers

Great news has arrived for the working class in Punjab, as the Chief Minister has approved the launch of the province’s largest-ever monthly ration card program.

According to sources, a Rs. 40 billion ration card scheme has been finalized specifically for industrial workers. Under this initiative, 1.25 million industrial labourers across Punjab will receive ration cards. The program is set to be officially launched on May 1st by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

To fund the initiative, the Punjab government will initially allocate Rs. 20 billion. An additional Rs. 10 billion each will be contributed from the budgets of the Labour Department and the Social Security Department.

The Bank of Punjab will be responsible for issuing the ration cards. The exact monthly amount to be provided through the cards will be determined by the Punjab Cabinet.

Legislation will also be introduced to formalize the program. The ration card will be issued in the name of the head of the household, benefiting over 8.4 million people in total.

Moreover, industrial workers already receiving assistance under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) or other government grant schemes will also be eligible for this program.
