Here Are Several Major Development Projects for Pakistan Currently in the Works

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired several high-level meetings on Thursday, where he reviewed the progress on crucial national initiatives and development projects, covering everything from the polio eradication to economic digitalization and infrastructure development.

Nationwide Polio Campaign

During a detailed briefing on anti-polio efforts, Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized the importance of vaccinating every child under five during the upcoming national polio campaign starting April 21. He commended the dedication of frontline workers, calling them the nation’s pride. He further directed that 100% routine immunization must be achieved during the campaign.

Push for Complete Economic Digitization

The Prime Minister also reviewed the roadmap for fully digitizing Pakistan’s economy. He tasked relevant ministries with taking immediate action to transition the country to a digital system. The PM emphasized that these reforms were essential to eliminate the informal economy and ensure long-term economic growth.

He also ordered the formation of a working group to accelerate the digitalization process and praised the success of the digital wallet used during the Ramadan package distribution.

Infrastructure and Beautification Projects

The PM acknowledged improvements in traffic flow in Islamabad and the city’s beautification. He commended Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for his efforts, calling him “Pakistan Speed” for the rapid development pace. The PM highlighted the ongoing expansion and renovation projects in Islamabad and expressed confidence in the completion of these projects despite challenges.

Balochistan Highway Project

The PM announced a Rs. 300 billion modern highway project for Balochistan, replacing the dangerous “bloody track” that has claimed nearly 2,000 lives. The motorway-quality road is expected to be completed within two years. He stressed that development in all provinces is crucial for the nation’s progress and rejected criticism of the project, stating that development in every province benefits Pakistan.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi thanked PM Shehbaz for laying the foundation stone for the Balochistan highway and promised that the project would be inaugurated within 35 days. Naqvi also proposed creating a separate traffic cadre for Islamabad Police and shared plans to introduce parking charges at several locations in the capital to help regulate city traffic.
