Construction of New Airports in Two Cities Approved

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has approved the construction of two new airports in Muzaffarabad and Sukkur, according to sources cited by ARY News.

A committee of officers has been formed to oversee the land acquisition process, while the Works and Development Department has already begun preliminary tasks related to the new facilities. The total cost of the projects is expected to run into billions of rupees, with completion targeted within five years.

To ensure smooth execution, the PAA plans to engage consultants and relevant experts for both projects.

The airport in Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), has been a long-standing demand of overseas Pakistanis, especially those of Kashmiri origin. The federal government, led by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), had earlier announced its commitment to the project in response to persistent calls from the diaspora.

Adding weight to the demand, several British Members of Parliament of Kashmiri descent wrote to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urging immediate steps toward establishing the airport in AJK.

In line with this, the PAA has published an advertisement seeking a consultancy firm for the Muzaffarabad airport. Interested consultants have been invited to take part in the tender process under the set regulations.
