Myanmar Restarts Tourist E-Visas for 100 Countries

After a two-week suspension due to a powerful earthquake, Myanmar has officially resumed issuing electronic tourist visas (e-Visas) as of April 22, 2025, offering relief to international travelers and a vital boost to the nation’s recovering tourism sector.

Why Tourist Visas Were Temporarily Halted

On March 28, 2025, a devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, resulting in over 3,000 deaths and more than 5,000 injuries. The disaster caused significant infrastructure damage, including disruptions to government digital systems.

In response, Myanmar’s Ministry of Immigration and Population suspended tourist e-Visa processing on April 3, though business visas remained unaffected. The pause was necessary due to server outages and broader safety concerns.

e-Visa System Restored for 100 Countries

The Ministry has now announced the full restoration of the online visa system. Citizens from approximately 100 countries—including the USA, Canada, Australia, and most of Europe—can once again apply for tourist e-Visas from anywhere in the world.

A Step Toward Tourism Recovery
