The Punjab Cabinet has approved a wide-reaching financial assistance program for laborers and low-income workers. The decision came during the 25th meeting of the provincial cabinet, as reported by 24News.
A key highlight of the session was the launch of the labor relief initiative, under which 1.5 million workers will receive Rs. 10,000 in monthly financial support through newly introduced ration cards.
Several other important decisions were also taken during the cabinet meeting. Farmers will now benefit from the Electronic Warehouse Receipt System, which allows them to store wheat without incurring storage costs, with the government covering the expenses.
In addition, the cabinet approved an amendment to the Food Grains (Licensing Control) Order, 1957, mandating flour mills to procure 25% of their wheat directly from farmers—failure to do so will result in license cancellation. The wheat sector has also been deregulated to ensure better market dynamics for growers.
To improve public services and mobility, the government approved an eco-friendly electric bus project for Rajanpur and feasibility studies for mass transit systems in Faisalabad, Gujranwala, and Lahore (Yellow, Blue, and Purple lines).
In the healthcare sector, the Cabinet approved additional funds for the purchase of medicines, equipment, and hospital furniture, enhancing patient care at tertiary hospitals.
