A pilot project launched by the Punjab Transport Company to improve commuter facilities at Lahore’s bus stops has largely failed, with fans stolen, water coolers out of order, and petrol and puncture services non-functional at most locations.
Introduced two months ago, the initiative aimed to provide basic amenities like electric fans, water coolers, and emergency vehicle support at selected bus stops across the city. But only one out of five pilot stops is still operational.
Equipment Missing from Key Locations
According to local reports, electric fans have gone missing from bus stops located at Jinnah Hospital, Mall Road, Jail Road, and Canal Road. The water coolers installed at these stops have also been shut down or are non-functional.
Only the bus stop at Minhaj University still has working fans and a water cooler.
Project Hit by Neglect and Lack of Oversight
The rapid failure of the pilot has raised questions about planning and accountability. No monitoring or security systems were in place to prevent theft or ensure proper maintenance.
The project’s collapse has drawn criticism, especially as the facilities were meant to offer some relief during Lahore’s summer heat.
Future Expansion Now in Doubt
The pilot was originally designed to be the first step in a city-wide upgrade. Its failure has cast serious doubt on the possibility of expanding the project to other parts of the city.
Without better oversight and maintenance, the fate of similar public initiatives in the future remains uncertain.

I saw those fans, getting installed and was like aik haftay main gaib ho jahain gey
