The Punjab government has announced a public holiday on Thursday, May 1, in connection with International Labour Day.
Every year, May 1 is observed around the world to show solidarity with workers and honour their struggles. Like other countries, Pakistan will also mark Labour Day with a public holiday.
All government offices, hospitals, secretariats, district offices, and both public and private educational institutions across Punjab will remain closed.
The announcement comes a day after the Sindh government had already declared May 1 as a public holiday across the province to observe Labour Day.
Labour Day is celebrated worldwide in memory of the workers’ movement in Chicago.
