Punjab has taken a major step towards modernising its transport system, as Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif approved the province’s first-ever bullet train project.
During a high-level meeting, in-principle approval was granted for a bullet train service connecting Lahore and Rawalpindi. Once completed, the bullet train is expected to cut travel time between the two cities to just two and a half hours.
The meeting also reviewed various operational models, including a partnership between Pakistan Railways and the private sector. Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has been tasked with coordinating with Pakistan Railways to move the project forward.
Plans are also underway to introduce high-speed trains on several other routes across Punjab, including Lahore to Shahdara and Narowal, Lahore to Raiwind and Kasur, and Pakpattan to Lodhran, among others.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has instructed authorities to fast-track the necessary studies for these projects, setting deadlines for completion in May and June this year.
Additionally, progress updates were shared regarding the Lahore Yellow Line and Gujranwala Mass Transit projects, as well as the upcoming e-taxi service.

I think Government should spend 75% GDP money on Lahore because all the other cities are flourishing and having lots of technologies and Lahore is still lacking technology after having so much of it😤😤😤

Does Punjab or Maryam Nawaz understand the meaning of a ‘bullet train’? If the so-called proposed train travels between Lahore and Rawalpindi in 2.5 hours, it will just be a train, not a bullet train.
What is wrong with the leaders? Rather than paying attention to the basic necessities like health, education and security, they are announcing fancy projects just for self-projection.
Your comment is valid. The intercity railway is not a provincial subject. How Punjab CM can direct Punjab officials to work on this project. She does not know her jurisdiction. I think this is just to get cheap popularity.
It doesn’t matter even if it would be a simple train instead of bullet train because to save time is much more precious!
You have spoken like an uneducated person. Normal trains travels t max 80km to 100km per hour. If the train will cover a distance of approx 400km in 2.5 hrs means it will be travelling at an avg speed of 155km/hr. Hence it is called bullet train. Have u sat on eurorail. They travel at the max speed of 185km.

بالکل درست بات ہے، آج تک انگریز دور کی ٹرین لائن چل رہی ہے، جو کہ کراچی سے لیکر پشاور تک، کسی حکمران نے یہ نہیں سوچا کہ لودھراں سے لیکر پشاور تک ڈبل ہو جائے، غریب عوام کو روزگار کے بارے میں سوچیں خود تو بلٹ پروف گاڑی میں سیر کر تے ہیں
اور لوگ زورگا کے لیے در بدر ہیں

Please focus on basic necessities for poor. Theses cosmetic projects only comfort rich man.
We don’t need any train… We need water dams so that whole country can get the benefits.
Govt. Is unable to provides the basic needs to the people and starting these types of project for their personals benefits and using the name of public.
Let railways do their job professionally. Interference by public authorities would increase their losses.
