The School Education Department of Punjab is considering starting summer vacations earlier this year due to the soaring temperatures.
According to 24NewsHD TV, the department has requested a detailed report from the Met Office to assess the situation before making a final decision.
Secretary of School Education, Khalid Nazir Wattoo, stated that any decision regarding the early closure of schools would be made after Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz reviews the heatwave report.
As of now, summer vacations are scheduled to begin on June 1, 2025. However, if the temperature rises more than usual, the holidays could start a week earlier.
Khalid Nazir Wattoo emphasised that the move is aimed at protecting the health of students, parents, and teachers, as extreme heat can severely impact academic activities. He also noted that the effects of climate change are being felt worldwide, with Pakistan increasingly vulnerable to such environmental challenges.
Experts have warned that each year the intensity of heat is rising, affecting sectors like education and health across the globe. Authorities in Punjab are therefore paying close attention to weather forecasts to ensure timely decisions are made for the safety of school communities.

The decision of summer vacation should be finalized knowing that May, June and July are extreme hottest month of every year especially in Punjab.
Summer break is necessary to start 01 May until 20th July.
After 20th July monsoon starts and drop the temperature reasonably.
Had noticed it from past many years that children have many outdoor activities in July and August month due to Summer break lasting till Aug 15. The time between July 15 to Aug 15 does not deemed necessity to have summer break due to monsoon season.
So it’s high time to decide once for all instead of getting reports from departments first to make fixed Summer break from may 1st till 15 july every year.
