Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday launched the Maryam Nawaz Ration Card Program, aimed at supporting over 1.25 million labourer families across the province.
Speaking at the launch ceremony at Lahore’s Expo Centre, CM Maryam said the initiative was designed for hardworking individuals, not handouts. “This program is for those who work 12 to 14 hours a day. They deserve dignity, not charity,” she stated.
Under the scheme, eligible workers will receive a Rs. 3,000 monthly subsidy through a digital ration card. The Chief Minister also announced the construction of 1,220 houses for laborers.
The event saw the participation of senior provincial ministers, including Maryam Aurangzeb and Uzma Bukhari. CM Maryam visited stalls at the venue and was briefed on the program’s mechanisms.
During her speech, she highlighted other welfare plans, including the expansion of the Green Bus Service with 500 new buses, progress on the Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital, and the opening of a new cardiology hospital in June.
She further promised 100,000 new homes, 100,000 laptops for students, and scholarships for 50,000 deserving youth, reaffirming her commitment to a “compassionate and inclusive” Punjab.
