New Mandatory Requirement Introduced for Buying Rickshaws

The Lahore High Court has issued a strict order directing rickshaw dealers not to hand over any vehicles to buyers without a valid driving license.

During the hearing of a petition related to smog and environmental pollution, the court was presented with a report on negotiations between the transport department and rickshaw manufacturers.

In its written verdict, the court stated that, based on earlier directives, the transport department had asked manufacturers not to sell rickshaws without a fitness certificate.

The court further directed that clear regulations be established between manufacturers and dealers regarding the sale of rickshaws, and that manufacturers should not be granted license renewals unless they meet all the set conditions.

The court has instructed the transport department to submit a detailed report by May 2.

  • The decision seems discriminatory. This decision should apply to all the automakers for individual buyers at least.

  • Government is doing so much but rikshaws are worst form of transport because it is causing people back bone injuries,i myself is a victim to this, once i was a working woman living my life and now im facing issues in back bone ,tailbone issue plus sciatica, roads are the worst with bad condition holes, how rikshaw contributes in this ,rikshaws dont have shocks (shock absorber) in it ,so when a small stone comes under the tyre of a rikshas it jumps badly and hhe person sitting got hit in the coccyx (tail bone),and the person faces health issues and even paralyzed,so kindly bring better forms of transport, better version of rikshaws with shock absorbers,i hope someone and every one would agree with me and government will take action against it.

  • More so, proper testing / training before giving a license should be a must.
Getting a license these days is a joke.

  • Good decision. The minister Abdul Aleem Khan ordered recently that the vehicles older than 20 years not allowed to enter on the motorways. This decision is totally wrong. Like Arab countries, the vehicles older than 10 years must have yearly inspection by the traffic Police to obtain fitness certificate. Even 40 years old vehicles can run on the motorways if have fitness certificate.
