The Sindh government has officially launched the Peoples Pink and Normal Taxi Service, a new initiative aimed at transforming the public transport landscape in the province.
The announcement was made by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon in a social media post on Wednesday. In a press release issued later that evening, Memon said the new service is designed to empower women, ensure safer travel, and promote eco-friendly transportation across Sindh.
Calling it a “historic milestone,” Memon — who also heads the provincial transport and information departments — emphasized the government’s commitment to building a more inclusive and modern transport network. He said the new taxi system reflects the province’s goal of creating equal opportunities for all segments of society.
Earlier this month, Memon had also shared plans to regulate and unify ride-hailing services operating in Karachi. While chairing a transport department meeting, he stated that services like Careem and Yango would soon operate under a single, integrated system to provide passengers with safe, legal, and standardized transportation.
“We’re working to bring the taxi system in Karachi under one umbrella in an integrated and modern manner,” Memon said, underlining the province’s broader transportation reform efforts.
