Smuggling of Donkey Skins Worth Millions Stopped at Karachi Port

Customs officials in Karachi have stopped an attempt to smuggle 14,000 kilos of donkey skins abroad. Authorities estimate the value of the seized donkey skins at Rs80 million.

The operation was carried out by staff from the Collectorate Customs Enforcement Karachi, who were monitoring shipments using the Risk Management Profiling System.

The suspicious container, which had been cleared from the Green Channel at the South Asia Pakistan Port Terminal, was listed in export documents as containing 285 packages of leather products.

However, a detailed inspection by the Anti-Smuggling Staff revealed that the consignment actually contained 14,000 kilos of donkey skins, which are banned for export under Pakistan’s export policy. The shipment was en route to China and had already received clearance to be moved to the sea.

The confiscated goods have been transferred to the anti-smuggling warehouse, and a case has been registered against the exporter under the Customs Act. Further investigation is underway.
