The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced plans to develop recreational areas at dam sites throughout the province to boost tourism.
According to Habibullah Arif, Director General of the Tourism and Culture Authority, the first phase of this initiative will see picnic spots set up at Naryab Dam in Hangu, Kundal Dam in Swabi, and Chatri Dam in Haripur. He explained that the project is part of a wider strategy to upgrade tourism infrastructure and enhance the overall experience for visitors.
Arif emphasized that improving tourist amenities is a key government objective, stating, “Our goal is to create well-equipped picnic areas at scenic dam locations across KP to ensure that visitors can relax and enjoy nature in comfort.”
The planned facilities will include walking paths, food stalls, restrooms, and other visitor conveniences to make the sites more attractive and accessible to tourists.
In a separate development, the KP Education Department has issued a province-wide ban on school-organized trips and picnics for government school students. The Elementary and Secondary Education Department released a directive instructing all government schools not to arrange field trips, tours, or recreational outings.
The order, which was circulated to District Education Officers (DEOs) and the merged districts, mandates strict compliance with the new policy.
