NADRA Launches Affordable Non-Chip ID Card With Smart Features

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a new version of its national ID card, featuring smart enhancements while removing the chip to reduce costs.

According to the official announcement, the new ID card includes bilingual information, displayed in both English and Urdu, which helps maintain consistency across government records and international documents such as passports.

A major addition is the integration of a QR code, allowing users to digitally verify their identity via the Pak ID mobile app—streamlining authentication in a variety of settings.

NADRA is also rolling out exclusive features for specific citizen groups. Individuals registered as organ donors will have a distinct symbol on their ID card, along with the benefit of lifetime validity. Similarly, persons with disabilities will receive special identification markers, and their cards will also be valid for life.

Citizens applying for renewal, modification, or replacement of a lost card can now choose the non-chip version. The new option offers a more affordable alternative while still retaining essential security features.

The fee structure for the non-chip ID card has been set with different delivery timelines: normal processing costs PKR 400 with a 31-day delivery window, urgent processing is available for PKR 1,150 with delivery in 15 days, and executive processing costs PKR 2,150 with a 9-day turnaround.

First-time applicants who turn 18 years old can receive their card free of charge under the normal category.
