The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is currently reviewing its domestic cricket structure, leading to uncertainty over the future of the Champions One-Day Cup. The tournament, held in Faisalabad from September 12 to 29 last year, brought together five provincial squads in a competitive One-Day format.
As part of ongoing discussions, the PCB is considering the revival of the Pentangular Cup, another historic domestic competition. However, no final decision has been made regarding the mentors or coaching staff for any upcoming tournaments, according to cricket journalist Saleem Khaliq.
With these deliberations underway, the fate of the Champions Cup remains unclear. The PCB’s next steps will determine whether the tournament continues or is replaced by a new format in the domestic calendar.
The event showcased the country’s top cricketing talent, with matches played in a round-robin format, followed by a series of playoff matches. The top two teams from the round-robin stage faced off in the Qualifier on September 24, with the winner advancing directly to the final.
The third and fourth-placed teams competed in Eliminator 1 on September 25. The tournament was won by ABL Stallions, led by Mohammad Haris.
