Russia on Saturday urged India to ease hostilities with Pakistan and to resolve tensions diplomatically following the Pahalgam attack.
Russia’s response comes after Pakistan asked world leaders for a neutral international investigation.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to seek resolution through the Simla Agreement and Lahore Declaration.
Despite its ties with India, Russia is against escalation. Up North West, the United States has condemned the attack but avoided blaming Pakistan directly. So far, India’s efforts to link Pakistan to the incident have remained pointless due to no evidence.
Pakistan has expanded its diplomatic campaign, calling for an international investigation.
Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar recently briefed Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis and Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis on the matter. Both Greece and Switzerland supported Pakistan’s call for a neutral probe and urged de-escalation.
India has not responded to Pakistan’s proposal for a transparent investigation since suspending the Indus Water Treaty.
