Sindh Declares 79 Medicines, Herbal Products and Syringes Fake

The Drug Testing Laboratory Sindh has found 79 samples of medicines, herbal products, and syringes to be substandard or fake after testing thousands of samples this year.

According to the report, the laboratory tested 2,461 samples between January and July 13. Out of these, 79 samples did not meet the required quality standards.

The report showed that 30 auto-disable syringe samples were also found to be substandard or fake. These syringes are made for one-time use, but some of the supplied samples were not working properly as auto-disable syringes.

Health officials warned that such syringes can create serious risks if reused. Reuse of syringes can increase the chances of spreading HIV, hepatitis, and other blood-related infections.

The report also found allopathic ingredients in 20 herbal products, which raises concerns about the safety and claims of such products.

In addition, 9 medicines were found to be unregistered with the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP).
