A team from the Indian Air Force has been spotted in Pampore, a town in Pulwama district, collecting and removing debris from one of their aircraft, reportedly shot down by Pakistan.
According to a report by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the wreckage is being cleared with the help of bulldozers, while authorities have secured the crash site to prevent public access.
The BBC further reports that an additional Indian Air Force team is present at the location to examine the remains of the aircraft. BBC correspondent Riaz Masroor, reporting from Pampore, shared that local residents described hearing a loud explosion followed by the sound of jet bombers. Soon after, pieces of aircraft debris were seen scattered across different parts of the town.
Indian forces have cordoned off the area by setting up barriers, and officials have yet to confirm the type of aircraft involved or its country of origin. The BBC notes that the crash site is located close to the area where more than 40 Indian security personnel lost their lives in a 2019 suicide attack, an event that previously heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.
Despite earlier denials from Indian authorities regarding reports of their fighter jets being destroyed by Pakistan, the presence of Indian Air Force teams at the crash site has drawn attention and raised further questions about the incident.
